Disposal Order Reimbursement Template: Amazon Destroyed Sellable Stock (UK)
Amazon destroyed your stock through a disposal (DESTROY) order — but the items were graded as Sellable. That is stock with value that could have been returned to you or resold. Use this template to claim reimbursement for sellable inventory that Amazon destroyed.
When to use this template
Use this template when all of the following are true:
If the items were graded as Unsellable before disposal, consider disputing the grading first with our grading dispute template. For a comprehensive guide to disposal order reimbursements, including when Amazon is liable and how to build your case, read our disposal orders guide.
What to gather first
Disposal claims hinge on proving the items were Sellable when Amazon destroyed them. Amazon's own records are your best evidence — the disposition field in the Removal Order Detail report is the key document.
The DESTROY order ID from Seller Central's removal order reports.
Shows the disposition (Sellable/Unsellable) for each item — this is your primary evidence.
Proves what you paid for the destroyed stock — supports the value of your claim.
Count how many units were Sellable vs Unsellable — only claim for the Sellable items.
List each ASIN affected and the exact number of sellable units destroyed.
When the destruction was processed — check if automated settings triggered it.

Dear Amazon FBA Support,
I am writing to request reimbursement for sellable inventory that was destroyed through a disposal order. The Removal Order Detail report confirms the items had a "Sellable" disposition at the time of destruction, meaning they were in a condition suitable for sale or return.
Removal Order ID: [YOUR_REMOVAL_ORDER_ID]
Order type: DESTROY (Disposal)
Disposal date: [DATE]
Sellable items destroyed:
ASIN [ASIN_1] — [X] units — disposition: Sellable — COG: £[AMOUNT]
ASIN [ASIN_2] — [Y] units — disposition: Sellable — COG: £[AMOUNT]
[ADD MORE AS NEEDED]
Total sellable units destroyed: [NUMBER]
Total COG at risk: £[AMOUNT]
Context:
[CHOOSE ONE OR ADAPT:]
— I did not authorise this disposal. My automated removal settings are configured to return items, not destroy them.
— This disposal appears to have been triggered by [long-term storage policy / automated settings / Amazon-initiated removal]. The items were sellable and should have been returned to my inventory or shipped to me instead.
— I requested a removal order but expected the items to be returned, not destroyed.
I have attached:
1. Removal Order Detail report showing Sellable disposition for destroyed items
2. Purchase invoices confirming cost of goods for the affected ASINs
3. Screenshot of my automated removal settings (if applicable)
Per Amazon's Business Solutions Agreement, inventory in sellable condition should not be destroyed without the seller's informed consent. I request reimbursement for the [NUMBER] sellable units that were destroyed in this disposal order.
Thank you for your time.

Amazon's own reports are your strongest evidence for disposal claims. The disposition field in their system proves the stock was Sellable.

Follow-up template (7 days later)
If you haven't received a response or resolution within 7 days, send this follow-up. Reference your original Case ID to keep the conversation in one thread.
Hi, I'm following up on Case ID [YOUR_CASE_ID] regarding reimbursement for sellable stock destroyed in disposal order [YOUR_REMOVAL_ORDER_ID].
This case was opened on [DATE] and I have not received a resolution. The Removal Order Detail report clearly shows [NUMBER] units with a "Sellable" disposition that were destroyed. These items had commercial value and should not have been destroyed.
Could you please provide an update? If additional information is needed, I am happy to provide it. I have purchase invoices confirming the cost of goods and the Removal Order Detail report is already attached to the original case.
If you get denied: next steps
Disposal claims can be harder to win than other claim types. Here are the common denial reasons and your options — including the tax write-off fallback.
"The disposal was performed per your account settings"
If your settings were configured to destroy rather than return, Amazon will point to this. Check your current settings — if they are set to "Return", screenshot them and show the discrepancy. If they were set to "Destroy" at the time, you have a weaker case for reimbursement but can argue you were not adequately notified. Change your settings to "Return" going forward.
"Items were not in sellable condition"
Directly quote the Removal Order Detail report showing Sellable disposition. Amazon's own system graded the items as Sellable — their internal records contradict this denial. Ask which grading was used at the point of destruction and how it differs from the recorded disposition.
"This disposal was part of a compliance/safety action"
If there was a genuine safety recall or compliance hold, the disposal may be justified. However, ask for the specific compliance case or safety notification that triggered it. If none exists, push back. If the disposal was legitimate, retain the documentation for tax write-off purposes — the cost of goods is still a deductible business loss.
Tax write-off fallback
If the reimbursement claim is ultimately denied, the destroyed stock can typically be claimed as a business loss for UK tax purposes. Retain: (1) the Removal Order Detail report showing what was destroyed, (2) your purchase invoices proving cost of goods, (3) the Amazon denial correspondence, and (4) any removal fee receipts. Consult your accountant for the specific tax treatment.
